Over 200 thousand South Sudan refugees in Sudan

After winning their independence from Sudan, at least 243,000 South Sudan people have found their way back to country after civil war erupted in the world’s youngest nation since December 2013, including tens of thousands from the Darfur region according to UN reports AFP.

South Sudan got its independence from Sudan in 2011 but has had thousands of people since the civil war broke out in 2013.

At least 90,000 South Sudanese have reached Sudan since beginning of 2016 and 50,000 from the East Darfur region have also sought asylum.

However “no new spike in the number of arrivals into Sudan has been observed since the eruption of violence in Juba on 8 July,” it said.

Violence has erupted in South Sudan after fighting between supporters of former rebel leader and vice President Riek Machar and the government troops. President Salva Kiir sacked Riek Machar as Vice President after the violence. Machar has been reported to be in Sudan for treatment.
