Oscar Pistorius to meet Reeva Steenkamp’s parents after release
Oscar Pistorius will meet with Reeva Steenkamp’s family upon his release from prison, South African officials have disclosed.
The former Paralympian athlete is expected to be released from prison into house arrest tomorrow after serving eleven months of his five-year sentence for the manslaughter of Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend then.
Department of Correction officials have not released the full details of Pistorius’ probation conditions, although the parole board said that he would have to continue receiving psychotherapy and would not be allowed to possess a firearm.
The officials say that they hope the meeting between Pistorius and the Steenkamp family will help the deceased parents come to terms with the loss of their daughter.
The Steenkamps are reportedly willing to meet the former athlete but on conditions that it happens out of the public eye.
The parole board cleared Pistorius for release from prison into house arrest for a second time after the first decision was rescinded after the minister of justice ordered a review.
The 28-year old is expected to serve his house arrest at his uncle’s home in an upmarket suburb of Pretoria.
