Oscar Pistorius is to remain in prison after the parole review board overturned an earlier decision to grant him parole.

The Paralympian was jailed last year after being found guilty of culpable homicide for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death at his home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius alleged that he mistook her for an intruder.

He was initially expected to be released on August 21 to serve the rest of his 5-year sentence under house arrest, but two days before that, Justice minister Michael Masutha announced that Pistorius would not be released, saying the parole board had acted prematurely when it decided in June that he could be released in August.

He argued that the athlete had not served the required one-sixth of his sentence and therefore could not be given parole.
