Obrigado Brazil! Paralympic Games come to an end in Rio de Janeiro
The Paralympics closing ceremony brought a beautiful climax to an eleven record-breaking days of Paralympic sports
The closing ceremony of the #rio2016 #Paralympics at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was full of colour and music as Brazil bid goodbye to a successful season of sports as it handed over the Olympic flag to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics
There was sadness as a moment of silence was taken for the first Paralympian to have died in the history of the Games; the tragic death of Iranian Para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnez after a crash in Saturday’s C4-5 road race.
“Tonight is a celebration of the last twelve days of sport but its also a sombre occasion after yesterday’s events. The passing of Bahman Golbarnezhad has affected us all and left the whole Paralympic movement united in grief.” Said International Paralympic Committee president Sir Philip Craven, after a moment of silence
