The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Nigeria stands at 26, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, the NCDC confirmed four positive cases, three of which were in Lagos State while one is in Oyo State.
“All 3 cases were reported in Lagos State and have travel history to high-risk countries in the last seven days,” the NCDC said on its official Twitter account.
The NCDC said that it was working closely with the Lagos State Ministry of Health to identify and follow up on people who came into contact with the three individuals.
Shortly thereafter, the NCDC announced the first confirmed case in Oyo State but gave no further details of the individual.
“As at 08:05 am on the 22nd of March, there are 26 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria,” the NCDC said in another tweet.
The NCDC urged anyone who had returned to Nigeria from any country in the last 14 days to stay in self-isolation.
The latest figures mean four of Nigeria’s 36 states have confirmed at least one positive case of the coronavirus. Lagos State (19) is the worst affected followed by Ogun State (2) and Ekiti and Oyo States (both one). Federal Capital Territory in central Nigeria has three confirmed cases.
Two patients, an Italian man and a Nigerian man who came into contact with him, have been discharged from hospital after recovering from the virus.
