Nine people have been confirmed dead and 13 others seriously injured following a road accident in Uganda Mpigi District on Sunday.

The accident involved a Toyota saloon car which collided with a minibus.

The minibus was travelling from Masaka to Kampala, with the saloon car heading the opposite direction.

All the five occupants of the saloon car, including a toddler, perished in the accident while three of the deceased were minibus passengers, the Daily Monitor reports.

Some of the injured were admitted to Gombe hospital while others were rushed to Buwama health centre III and the nearby clinics.

Police’s preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by reckless driving by both drivers, the report said.
