Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi may be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after he suffered an abductor injury in Leicester City’s 4-2 win against Burnley in the Premier League.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed the assessment after his side’s defeat at home to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup third round, which Ndidi did not feature in.

“We’re just waiting to hear more on that, but he could be anything between six and 12 weeks. It’s an abductor which may have come off the bone,” Rodgers said.

“It’s quite a nasty injury, so we’re waiting to see if he needs an operation or not. If it’s an operation, then he’ll be at least 12 weeks.”

The 23-year-old has played at centre-back in City’s two Premier League matches as cover for Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans.

Leicester, who currently leads the Premier League on goal difference after two games, will next play former champions Manchester City in the Premier League at Etihad Stadium on Sunday
