Nigeria’s Super Eagles gear up for mouth-watering World Cup qualifier clash against Algeria
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for a mouth-watering clash against Algeria in a World Cup qualifying game, seeking to tighten their grip on CAF Group B’s lead.
The Nigerians top the group with three points having overcome Zambia 1-2 in the first round of matches.
The Algerians are tied at second place with Cameroon, having settled for a 1-1 draw.
The Super Eagles boast of a host of talents, with Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Watford’s Odion Ighalo and Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa having already reported to camp following their weekend fixture with their various clubs.
Algeria too have their starts, with Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez the standout name.
Mahrez is the only African to have been included in the 23-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016, following his side’s historic Premier League win last season.
Added to Islam Slimani, the North Africans will pose quite a challenge for the Nigerians.
In the other Group B match, Cameroon will face Zambia, knowing that they have a chance to move to the top of the group should Nigeria and Algeria falter.
