Nigeria military has imposed a curfew on the the North-eastern city of Maiduguri, following an attack by suspected Boko Haram fighters.
The attack took place on Wednesday. Heavy shooting and explosions were heard on the outskirts of the city, with many fleeing their homes.
Residents said they heard heavy shooting and explosions on the outskirts and began fleeing their homes. The fighting began around 1745 GMT before subsiding by around 2000 GMT.
Maiduguri has come under Boko Haram attacks on dozens of occasions. The group has been relatively quiet recently with the Nigerian army making gains against it in its stronghold, the Sambisa forest.
Maiduguri has not been attacked since two major takeover attempts in late January and early February and several bombings in March.
Several hundred insurgents carried out the latest attack in Maiduguri. The militants were reportedly trying to kidnap a group of women when security forces responded.
