Nigerians using British Airways to deliver pizza from London, govt minister claims

Rich Nigerians are ordering pizzas from London and having them delivered over 3000 miles via British Airways flights, Nigeria’s agricultural minister has claimed.
According to Audu Ogbeh, the extravagant new trend has become “annoying” and officials are desperate to bring an end to it.
Ogbeh told a senate committee last week in Abuja: “Do you know, sir, that there are Nigerians who use their cellphones to import pizza from London? [They] buy in London, they bring it on British Airways in the morning to pick up at the airport.”
“It is a very annoying situation,” he added, “and we have to move a lot faster in cutting down some of these things.”
Ogbeh did not specify which Nigerians were allegedly making the extravagant orders.
It remains unclear if they personally fly to London for the pizzas or hire a middleman.
His comments provoked an amused reaction of social media.
Amara Nwankpa, a director at the Yar’Adua Foundation in Abuja, responded in jest: “Dear @British_Airways, how come you didn’t tell us you run a pizza delivery service to Nigeria? Is there an app for this?”

The minister’s remarks came in response to governments plans to cut down on foreign imports which are seen as status symbols by too many people.
