Nigerian politicians  to consider granting asylum to The Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh after a motion was proposed.

Nigeria’s House of Representatives are expected to debate a motion on granting asylum to Gambian President Yahaya Jammeh in Nigeria as part of efforts to broker peace and ensure smooth transition in that country according to the Daily Trust

A few Nigerian politicians sponsored the motion which is meant to encourage the defiant Gambian President to step down. Although the motion brought up as a motion of urgent public importance for debate yesterday, it was postponed to today.

Jammeh has refused to hand over to his opponent, Barrow, who defeated him in the December presidential elections.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is leading Presidents of countries in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to broker an agreement in the elections.
