The Nigerian police have recovered 43 high-caliber firearms and 1,117 rounds of ammunition in the northeast state of Bauchi, the state governor said Wednesday.

The weapons, left and hidden by bandits who are now at large, were recovered at a forest in Ningi area of the state, said Governor Bala Mohammad.

Mohammad said the state would encourage community policing to identify bandits and armed robbers who migrated from other states to Bauchi to look for safe haven.

He also vowed that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state.
