A Nigerian man on Tuesday appeared at a court in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos state, accused of biting the lip of another man during a fight.

28-year-old Abayomi Odejobi, an entertainer in Lagos, is charged with assault for the offence committed on 15 January.

He however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police say Odejobi sought another man that he says was wooing his girlfriend on Facebook and challenged him to a fight at a public bus stand.

“The accused claimed that the complainant wooed his girlfriend on the Facebook and sent a message to him to steer clear of her. The complainant too responded and told him he will date the girl and since then, the accused has been looking for him,’’ local NAN website quotes Police Prosecutor Innocent Odugbo to have said.

“They met at a bus stop and the accused was the first to engage him in a fight. The accused bit the complainant on his lower lip and when he realised what he did and was about running away, a police patrol team apprehended him,” Odugbo added.

If found guilty, Odejobi faces up to three years imprisonment for the offence.

He was granted N50,000 (around US$140) bail, with the case adjourned until 19 February.
