Gunmen killed more than 50 villagers in two local government areas of Nigeria’s Kaduna state early Sunday, state governor Nasir El-Rufai confirmed on Monday.

The governor, who visited the two local government areas, Igabi and Giwa, vowed never to negotiate with bandits.

He said the situation could have been worse if the Nigerian Army and Air Force did not launch an offensive against the bandits.

The governor told the families who lost their loved ones that the attackers would be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.

The victims have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, El-Rufai said.
