Nigerian defender Osinachi Ohale signed for Italian club AS Roma Women from Spanish Primera Iberdrola club CD Tacon, which was renamed Real Madrid Women.

Ohale, who signed a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee, said there were a variety of factors that convinced her to join the club.

“I felt like it would be a great thing for me, to explore and to experience new things and a new challenge,” Ohale told Roma’s website.

The experienced 28-year-old, who prides herself at being good at reading the game and physical battles, is expected to bolster Roma’s defence ahead of the start of the 2020/2021 season in September.

She said that one of her goals is to help Roma qualify for the Champions League, a competition that neither she nor Roma have played in before.

“That is why I am here, to help the team to get to all their targets, because it is an amazing club – as I said – with so much ambition.”

Ohale has also previously played in Nigeria for Rivers Angels and Delta Queens in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League; in Sweden for Vittsjo and Vaxjo in the top division; and in the United States for Houston Dash.

Ohale has represented the Super Falcons at three FIFA World Cups and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Ohale has also won the Nigerian Women’s Premier League title twice and the Africa Cup of Nations four times.
