Nigerian Army calls on Amnesty to respect the country’s sovereignty

Read < 1 minute

The Nigerian army has slammed rights group Amnesty International.

That comes after the group said it has evidence that the Nigerian army carried out a massacre of more than 300 members of a Nigerian Shia group in Zaria.

Amnesty published satellite images of what it says is a mass grave.

The army has responded, saying, quote, the NGO should understand that Nigeria is a sovereign nation and should be respected.

The army also says there’s already a commission of inquiry in place, and says all agencies should wait for that inquiry to finish.

Hundreds were killed in December when the army opened fire on members of a Shi’ite Muslim community.

The army claims they’d tried to assassinate an army chief. Survivors have denied that allegation.

CCTV’s Kelechi Emekalam was recently in the city, and also filed this exclusive report.
