Nigeria shows off new air assets for Boko Haram fight
Nigeria’s air force has shown off new assets it says will be used to combat Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
The air force over the weekend demonstrated a new attack helicopter while celebrating its 53rd anniversary.
“What we have witnessed is a demonstration of what happens during air interdiction, ground attack and close air support missions that our pilots conduct frequently in the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations,” Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin, Chief of Staff Nigerian Air Force said.
Nigeria is also hoping that the U.S. will move forward with the sale of more military aircraft.
Thousands of people have been killed by Boko Haram in north-eastern Nigeria and more than 3 million have fled their homes.
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to curb the insurgency.
