Nigeria dream team defeated Honduras 3-2 to win the Rio 2016 men’s Olympics football at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte on Saturday evening winning their country’s first medal of the Rio games.

Victory meant Nigeria has now won gold, silver and bronze from the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament over the past 20 years. They scooped gold in 1996 -to become the first African team to win the gold medal- and picked silver eight years ago in Beijing. Nigeria’s football team made history by winning all three men’s football Olympic medals.

The Dream Team VI was brought to victory under Coach Samson Siasia, who also coached the ‘Dream Team’ that won the silver in China, Beijing Olympics in 2008.

A brace from Sadiq Umar in the 34th and 60th minutes and another from Aminu Umar in the 54th minutes were all the Dream Team needed to overcome Honduras according to Nigeria’s Vanguard
