NIGERIA DECIDES: New leadership to deal with rise in minimum wage bill

Nigerians will go to the polls on Saturday to elect their president.

Ahead of that vote, Nigerians have been raising various issues which they would want the new leadership to act upon once they get into power.

Among the issues mentioned most include, insecurity, unemployment, infrastructural development and provision of reliable electricity.

Also, the West African country has been in a legal process aimed at raising the minimum wage bill.

With the current President Muhammadu Buhari’s backing, lawmakers have approved a rise in the minimum wage bill to 30,000 Naira (around $83). The bill now awaits Senate’s approval before coming into effect.

The current minimum wage for Nigerians is set at 18,000 Naira (about $50)
CGTN sought a deeper look into this, and got a hold of Dr. Emeka Okengwu, a Nigerian economist who is also the National Chairman of the Alliance of Social Democrats, for his insights.
