More than 84 million people are registered to vote in Nigeria’s presidential election.
Voter turnout may however be affected by fears of violence in the country, as some Nigerians fear what could happen should insecurity erupt during the voting process..
The election has pit current President Muhammadu Buhari against 72 other candidates, but his main contender is considered to be a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
The two command large followings, a fact that has sparked fears in some quarters that heightened tension may cause chaos.
Before this vote however, the presidential candidates signed a peace accord, pledging to accept the result of the vote as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Still however, some Nigerians are not satisfied that the accord could hold peace after the voting process.
CGTN Africa earlier spoke to an expert from the Roman Institute of Security Studies in Abuja, Dr. Amaechi Nwokolo, who expressed pessimism over the security of the country ahead of this vote.
