Nigeria aims to restore 10,000 health centres

The Federal government of Nigeria is determined to revive 10 000 primary health care centres across the country according to the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire reports The Guardian.
The decision to rebuild the health centres is to bring better healthcare to the folks living in the rural areas and to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the nation said the Minister. He further explained that the move is to ensure there is no over stretching of health facilities and human resource at the secondary and tertiary health institutions in the country.
A sum of 1.5 million dollars will be allocated to 36 states across the East African nation to enable the process of rebuilding the health facilities. A total of 500 million dollars has been borrowed to boost the health care.
“There must be enough commitment to develop the health sector. All the problems about utilities are largely due to management challenges.” Said the Minister
The minister asked members of the Nigerian Medical Association to lay aside the matter of strikes and consider their patients first and in addition allow the government to dialogue with all the health stakeholders.
