Nice truck attacker was of Tunisian origin
The gunman who killed at least 84 people in the French city of Nice when he drove a heavy truck into a crowd that had gathered to celebrate the Bastille Day was a 31-year-old French citizen of Tunisia origin, police sources say.
The man is said to have been known to the police in connection with common law crimes such as theft and violence, but was not on the watch-list of French intelligence services.
The attacker’s identification documents were found in the truck after he was gunned down by police at the scene.
As he plunged the truck into the crown, he is also said to have fired into the crown with a handgun.
The attack left scores other critically injured.
Police are still trying to establish whether he had any accomplices.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
