Hundreds of Somali army personnel graduated at a Turkish run military academy in Mogadishu in an event that was attended by the country’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

This was the first batch of national army troops who received training from Turkey’s military academy under Turkish commanders in the event that took place on Friday.

The President thanked the Turkish government for its support in enhancing and rebuilding the Somali National Army.

“We have a lot of gratitude for your appreciated support to us, and our foreign policy is based on cooperation which is open to everyone,” the president said.

The cadets were called upon by the president to use what they have learned during their training in the country’s fight against terrorism, namely against the al-Shabaab terror group.

Mogadishu hopes these soldiers will play a vital role as African Union troops begin to exit Somalia.

CGTN’s Abdulaziz Billow attended the event and filed this report.
