Namibia announces two new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 16

Namibia has confirmed two new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The new infections brings the total number of cases in the country to 16.

The new cases were announced in a statement from Namibia’s health ministry on Sunday. One is a 31-year-old Namibian teacher who reported close contact with a friend from South Africa, while the other is a 46-year-old health worker who had recently traveled from South Africa, the statement read.

Namibia’s southern neighbor currently has the highest caseload of any country on the continent and has declared stringent restrictions on commerce and movement in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.

Namibia has been under a declared state of national emergency since March 14.
