Multiple bomb explosions rock Maiduguri, north-eastern Nigeria

Three bombers have lost their lives in multiple bombing explosions in Maiduguri, Nigeria on Friday according to local media reports.

“We are lucky, today would have been another sad day for us in Maiduguri, at 03hrs, two female bombers and a male bomber attacked petroleum tankers parked near a filling station along Damboa road Maiduguri. Two bombers detonated while the third was gun down by a soldier. As a result of an explosion, three petrol tankers were also burnt including two petrol loaded truck while the third was an empty truck.” Said The Commissioner of Police Borno state, Mr. Damian Chuckwu stated this while addressing newsmen at the scene of the blasts in Maiduguri on Friday

The three bombers had Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) strapped to their bodies. According to Sahara reporters, the bomber failed in their mission to bomb an Internally Displaced Persons camp in the area.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), three petrol tankers were said to have been destroyed as a result of the explosion.

The suicide bombers died instantly leading to massive fire from one of the petrol tankers laden with PMS, two other empty tankers were also burnt.

No other casualty was recorded beyond the three suicide bombers.
