Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted at a “tough” second term following his victory in the February 23 election.
Buhari made the remark at a meeting with members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), who paid him a visit in Abuja to congratulate him for his win.
“My last lap of four years, I think is going to be tough. People are very forgetful and that’s why during the campaign I spoke about our cardinal agenda,” he said.
The 76-year-old garnered 56 percent of the votes ahead of his closest rival Atiku Abubakar, who obtained 41 percent.
Buhari’s first term focused on fighting graft in the West African country. While campaigning for his second term, he pledged to focus on security, infrastructural and economic development.
The Abuja meeting was also attended by vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, Head of Service of the Federation Winifred Oyo-Ita, National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno and over 20 ministers.
