At least 417 people are confirmed dead in Mozambique in the aftermath Cyclone Idai, according to the Minister of Land and Environment Celso Correia.
The death toll from the cyclone in Mozambique and neighbouring Zimbabwe, where 259 people died, now stands at 676.
Cyclone Idai made landfall near the port city of Beira in Mozambique just over a week ago bringing with it heavy rains and strong winds that devastated Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Over 17,000 houses have been completely destroyed and hundreds of thousands of hectares of crops have been damaged in Mozambique. Nearly 90,000 Mozambicans have been forced to move into shelters, while thousands of others are still stranded in floodwaters.
The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said that cases of cholera and malaria have been reported in Beira after it raised an alarm over the potential spread of waterborne diseases.
The IFRC says search and rescue missions are still ongoing.
The government of Mozambique has appealed for international assistance.
