Morocco’s Youssef En Nesyri scores as Sevilla powers into Europa League quarterfinals
Moroccan striker Youssef En Nesyri was on the score sheet as Sevilla advanced to the quarterfinals of the Europa League following a 2-0 win against Italian club AS Roma at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg, Germany, on Thursday.
Sevilla took the lead in the 22nd minute when defender Sergio Reguilon powered past Roma’s defence and slotted the ball underneath goalkeeper Pau Lopez.
The Spanish side then doubled its lead a minute before halftime when Lucas Ocampos broke free on the right, skipped a challenge and squeezed the ball past Lopez for En Nesyri to volley the ball into the net.
It was the Moroccan’s sixth goal for Sevilla since his €20 million move from Leganes in January.
Sevilla could have increased their lead but Jules Kounde’s effort 16 minutes from time was ruled out for offside.
Roma’s evening was made worse as defender Gianluca Mancini was sent off in injury time.
After the match, En Nesyri told Sevilla’s media team: “I’m very happy with the goal and the work that the team did today. We have to keep working hard and think about the next match”.
Sevilla will get a chance to move a step closer to adding to its five UEFA Cup/Europa League titles when they face English side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the quarterfinals at MSV Arena on August 11.
