Morocco reports highest single-day rise of 5,745 COVID-19 cases
Morocco reported on Wednesday 5,745 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily spike since the start of outbreak in the country on March 2.
According to the new data published by the ministry of health, Morocco now has a total of 235,310 coronavirus cases, and 3,982 people have died from the virus, including 82 new deaths in the past 24 hours.
The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 193,886 after 3,977 new ones were added, while 886 patients are in intensive care units, the ministry of health said.
Casablanca remains the worst-hit region in the country with 2,478 newly confirmed cases and 26 deaths during the last 24 hours.
Moroccan Prime Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani warned on Tuesday in a parliamentary hearing session that returning to total lockdown is a possible option if the COVID-19 spread becomes uncontrollable.
“None of us want a return to total lockdown, but it remains an option if the epidemiological situation becomes uncontrollable,” he said.
