Morocco beefs up security ahead of COP22 meeting
Morocco will deploy over 5,000 policemen to Marrakech to provide security during the upcoming 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22).
World climate leaders will gather in Marrakech from November 7 – 18 for discussions on bettering the protection of the world climate.
About 100 new surveillance cameras have already been set up in different sections of the city to enhance the security even better.
Also, about 800 bodyguards will be deployed to protect the around 120 world leaders that are expected to attend the conference.
In total, 40,000 visitors are expected in Morocco to attend the conference.
The historic Paris Climate Change Agreement adopted in COP21 in 2015 will enter into force on 4 November after at least 55 countries, accounting for 55 percent of global emissions, have ratified the agreement.
Under the Paris Agreement, nations have agreed to combat climate change and to unleash actions and investment towards a low carbon, resilient and sustainable future.
