Morocco foiled an illegal immigration attempt at Casablanca Mohammed V airport and arrested eight people, official newspaper Le Matin said on Wednesday.

The suspects are believed to have links with a criminal network active in the organization of illegal immigration and trafficking in human beings, said the report, adding that a would-be immigrant was arrested on Tuesday at Casablanca’s Mohammed V international airport.

The search of the suspects’ houses resulted in the seizure of foreign residence cards, falsified visas and a batch of passports of would-be immigrants, it added.

The suspects were held in police custody to complete the investigation, and identify the accomplices and people involved in this criminal network in Morocco and abroad, it said.
