Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Sunday congratulated the newly-elected Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in a message, official news agency MAP reported.

The king expressed his congratulations and wishes of full success in office to Tebboune, MAP said.

He also reiterated his previous call to open a new page in relations between the two neighboring countries, based on mutual trust and constructive dialogue, the agency added.

Tebboune, 74, won a majority 58.15 percent of vote in the Algerian presidential election on Thursday, becoming the North African country’s 8th elected president since it gained independence from France in 1962.
