Mogadishu stadium to be repaired after damage by Somalia’s civil war
Somalia’s Minister of Youth is seeking the assistance and expertise of the Government of China to uplift the standards of the sport in the country.Speaking to the media after a visit of a delegation from the government, Somalia’s National Olympic Committee and other stakeholders, Mohammed Abdullahi Hassan expressed Somali government’s intention to beat the adversity and bring back Somali youth into the stadium.
Mogadishu stadium was damaged by the country’s civil war and is now a base for AMISOM troops. The ministry of internal security says that African Union troops will vacate the facility upon recieving a request from the the sports ministry.
“We are going to begin reconstruction of the stadium soon; we spent a lot of time asking governments to support us, thanks to china for their support, they did a lot of development projects for Somalia, they constructed this stadium before and we need them to help us the reconstruction now” said Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan Nuh – Minister of Youth and Sports
