Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah is a doubt for European champions Liverpool who will be away to Belgian side Genk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Salah limped off during the latter stages of Liverpool’s 2-1 win at home against Leicester City with an ankle injury following a tackle by Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

The Egyptian was completely left out of the side that drew 1-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

He was also left out of the squad for Egypt’s friendly against Botswana during the international break as he got rehabilitation.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was non-committal on whether Salah will definitely return to action in midweek given speculation that he would play against United.

“He couldn’t train with the team; I don’t know where it came from that everybody said he will play (against United). There was pretty much no chance for today, maybe for Wednesday, we have to see,” Klopp said.

Liverpool lies second in Group E level on three points with Austrian club RB Salzburg and a point behind leaders Napoli of Italy. Genk, the Belgian champions, lie bottom of the group on one point.
