Mnangagwa expected to visit China next week
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to visit China next week upon the invitation of China’s Xi Jinping.
The two leaders are expected to develop a blue print for the development of both countries.
Mnangagwa will use the trip to attract more investors to his country in order to revive its economy.
This will be the 75-year-old’s second trip outside the continent since taking over from Robert Mugabe in November 2017.
Mnangagwa has been on a course to re-establish engagements with countries across the world in order to rebuild his country’s economy.
Earlier this year, the president confirmed his trip to Beijing, saying it would focus on cooperation.
“I will be going to China in April and working out areas of cooperation in that regard,” he said.
Mnangagwa’s visit to China comes less than four months before the country’s presidential elections, in which he is expected to run.
He pledged to ensure the vote is credible, also saying his administration will allow European Union observer missions, which had been barred from witnessing elections in the country under Mugabe.
