Midfielder Teko Modise to retire at end of the season

South African midfielder Teko Modise announced his retirement from professional football.

His current club, Cape Town City FC, confirmed the statement on Friday on its official Twitter account.

Modise will play his last game on Saturday against Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium as the 2018/2019 ABSA Premiership season concludes.

Cape Town City said they would announce Modise’s role with the club in the near future. The club also confirmed that Modise will get a farewell in the form of a testimonial football match. The details of the game including the venue and the opponents are yet to be announced.

The 36-year-old Modise also played South African clubs SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates & Mamelodi Sundowns.

Modise won several titles during his career, most notably at Mamelodi Sundowns with whom he won the Absa Premiership twice and the CAF Champions League. He also claimed a number of personal awards, including being named PSL Footballer of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

He made 66 appearances for the men’s national football team, Bafana Bafana, between 2007 and 2012, scoring 10 goals.
