Tanzanian league champions Simba S.C. bounced back from a shock home defeat to Mbao F.C. last week by thumping struggling Alliance 5-1 on Sunday.
Rwandan forward Meddie Kagere opened the scoring with a 23rd minute penalty but Martin Kiggi equalized in the 39th minute. Kagere restored Simba’s lead five minutes later as the champions went into the break ahead.
Simba then pulled away in the second half scoring three unanswered goals through Luis Miquissone, Deo Kanda and Said Hamisi Ndemla.
The win saw Simba extend their lead to 16 points after Young Africans (Yanga) drew 1-1 against lowly Mwadui. Feisul Salum gave Yanga the lead in the 27th minute but Yahya Mbegu leveled the game 11 minutes into the second half.
Third-placed Azam also registered a similar result against Lipuli with Abdalla Kheri’s opener being cancelled out by Paul Materaz in the 80th minute.
Mbao’s six-game winning streak ended with a 1-1 draw away to JKT Tanzania while fourth-placed Namungo and Tanzania Prisons played out a similar result as did Biashara Mara United and Coastal Union.
Fifth-placed Polisi Tanzania came from behind to defeat Kagera Sugar 2-1 and Kinondoni MC and Mbeya City both registered 1-0 wins against Mtibwa Sugar and Ndanda respectively.
Bottom-of-the-table Singida United registered only its fourth win of the campaign after defeating Ruvu Shooting 2-0.
Only two games of Tanzania’s Vodacom Premier League remain with most of the relegation places still to be decided. Second place, which guarantees a place in the CAF Confederation Cup, is still also up for grabs with Yanga, Azam and Namungo still in contention.
