Mauritanian music is representation of two worlds, the devotional Islamic life of North Africa and the rhythmic energy of sub-Saharan Africa. Mauritania Musicians are finding ways of merging Centuries old traditional music with Modern contemporary sounds. Mauritania music is heavily influenced by the country’s predominant ethnic group, the Moors, and by sounds from neighboring Senegal. For centuries Mauritania has functioned as a crossroads, a place where various African and Arabic cultures meet and that is reflected in their music too.
