Manchester United manager Mourinho makes plea deal in tax evasion case

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reached a deal with the Spanish tax authorities to serve one year in prison in a tax evasion case, El Mundo newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Prosecutors have accused him of a £2.9million (€3.3m) tax fraud, the newspaper said.
Under the terms of the agreement, Mourinho will admit to having managed to “render opaque the benefits derived from his image rights” and of giving data to society “that does not correspond to reality”, with the sole purpose of defrauding taxes. He also agreed on paying a fine amounting to the 60 percent of the total sum he defrauded the Treasury in two years
Mr. Mourinho received the concealed income through a company located in the British Virgin Islands, called Koper Services, SA, El Mundo wrote.
He is unlikely to serve any time in jail under the deal because Spanish law states that a sentence of under two years for a first offence can be served on probation. The Spanish tax agency was not immediately available for comment.
