Manchester United slumped to a second consecutive defeat on Saturday after going down 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, ending their FA Cup hopes.

The defeat was the Red Devils’ third since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from former manager Jose Mourinho in December.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup, United now only have the Champions League to fight for, as the Premier League is realistically out of reach.

Solskjaer termed Saturday’s result as a “big step backwards,” adding that it “was the poorest we’ve played.”

“We started too slowly and played into their hands. Our possession wasn’t bright enough and quick enough, so it’s disappointing.”

Wolves on the other hand will be proud of their performance so far this season, with many of the opinion that the team has already punched above their weight.

The Wanderers are currently placed seventh on the Premier League table, a big feat considering this is their first season since promotion to the top flight.

Club football takes a break for international games, and Manchester United will be keen to use that time to re-energize for a tough run of games afterwards.
