Manchester City renames training pitch after departing Yaya Toure
Manchester City’s departing Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure has had a training pitch named after him.
The Citizens renamed a training facility after the legend, also putting up a mosaic to commemorate his contribution for the club.
The former Cote d’Ivoire captain has spent eight seasons at Manchester City, having joined from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Toure went on to make 230 Premier League appearances for the Citizens, scoring 62 times.
In that period, he won three PL titles.
The Ivorian’s departure was confirmed earlier this month by manager Pep Guardiola, who hailed his contribution for the team through the years.
The Ivorian has however found play-time hard to come by since the arrival of the Spanish tactician. This season, he has managed only 10 appearances, most of which came as a substitute.
Toure played in City’s 3-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion, after which he faced journalists over his future.
The Ivorian revealed that he already has offers, but would still like to remain in the Premier League.
“Yes, because of my family. My kids, for me, are British. They go to school here, they have a lot of friends in Manchester. Manchester is their town,” he said.
Manchester City still have a game to play, and Toure is expected to make an appearance, marking his last game for the Citizens.
