Malusi Gigaba resigns as MP two days after quitting cabinet
Having resigned from cabinet on Tuesday, former South African Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has also quit his role as a Member of Parliament, following a ruling by the High Court that he lied under oath.
The South African parliament on Thursday announced that its Speaker, Baleka Mbete, had received Gigaba’s resignation letter.

The former Home Affairs Minister has been under pressure to resign over the past two weeks following the court ruling that said he had been dishonest about the Fireblade private terminal at OR Tambo International Airport.
The public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane had found that the former minister had violated the constitution and the executive code of ethics when he lied to the court regarding the matter.
Gigaba, who was finance minister in 2017-2018, has denied any wrongdoing.
Last month, he grabbed headlines over a private sex video that was leaked online.
President Cyril Ramaphosa requested Minister of Transport Blade Nzimande to act as Minister of Home Affairs until a permanent appointment is made.
