Mali Swears in Court to try Ex-President Amadou Toumani Toure

Read < 1 minute

Mali swore in a new high court on Thursday that will be charged with hearing a case of high treason against former President Amadou Toumani Toure. The government of Mali had brought the case before the National Assembly accusing Toure of failing in his duty as commander of Mali armed forces to prevent armed Islamist groups from seizing the northern two-thirds of the country. The Ex-President was overthrown in a coup in 2012 after failing to quell a Tuareg separatist uprising in the north.
