Lupita Nyong’o, Sho Madjozi join Global Citizen’s COVID-19 relief TV special

Lupita Nyong’o, Sho Madjozi, Cassper Nyovest, Black Coffee and more are all set to appear in Global Citizen’s upcoming ‘One World: Together at Home’ concert.

The international advocacy organisation on Tuesday evening announced a second wave of artists that will perform or appear at the relief concert, where initially, Burna Boy and Idris Elba were the only Africans set to make appearances

They will be joined by the likes of Lady Gaga, Andrea Bocelli, Chris Martin, Danai Gurira, David Beckham, Elton John, Idris and Sabrina Elba, John Legend, Kerry Washington, Lewis Hamilton, Lizzo, Samuel L. Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

The line-up was curated in collaboration with Lady Gaga.

The One World: Together At Home concert will air on Saturday, April 18, on several online platforms in support of health care workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic globally and the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

The concert will later air as a two-hour special on E! Entertainment channel at 1700hrs CAT on Sunday.

Proceeds from the concert will go to equipping health care workers with protective equipment, and charities providing food, shelter and other resources to those in need.

Speaking about the concert’s contribution to supporting COVID-19 relief efforts, Lady Gaga says, “It is so important to think globally and support the World Health Organization to curb the pandemic and prevent future outbreaks.” She adds that, “We want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented, and cultural movement.”

“Through music, entertainment and impact, the global live-cast will celebrate those who risk their own health to safeguard everyone else’s,” Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evan said in a statement.
