The Libyan ambassador in Rome, Omar Al-Tarhouni, said that the Libyan Navy in the past months has prevented 80 percent of immigrants arriving in Libya, from crossing to Europe.

“Italy, Europe, and the United Nations should help Libya financially, in the repatriation of migrants,” Tarhouni told Italian News Agency “Aki” on Friday.

He added that the number of migrants has reached 500 thousand during 2018, stressing the inability of the Libyan state to keep all these migrants on its territory.
