Liberian health officials investigate death of celebrated Ebola survivor
The late Salome Karwah was a Liberian Ebola survivor who, upon defeating the virus, volunteered to go back into treatment units as a healthcare worker.
Health officials in Liberia are now investigating her death, just days after she gave birth.
Salome’s family say she died after the hospital where she had sought assistance initially refused to help – because they feared she would infect them.
Her husband wants to know the truth about her death, though he refuses to blame the hospital just yet.
Liberia’s Ministry of Health has said it will investigate Salome family’s claims that she was treated differently by medical staff because she was an Ebola survivor.
Along with other healthcare workers, Salome was featured on the cover of the US’ Time Magazine, as one of their 2014 people of the year.
