Boko Haram militant group leader Abubakar Shekau may have been replaced by another commander. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari made the revelations during an interview with a British publication, as he expressed concern over the looming threat of militants taking over parts of the continent.

Buhari said he had received conflicting information on Shekau’s whereabouts, saying that he may have been replaced by a less charismatic leader. Shekau’s voice was last heard in an audio message lat year. He has also failed to appear in the latest video released by the militant group, prompting many to believe that he may have been killed in one of Nigerian military’s many raids on Boko Haram territory.
