Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars’ coach Paul Put has resigned citing personal reasons.
Put who decided to resign on Monday has been coach for just three months, a statement from the Communications and PR Manager Barry Otieno said.
“Football Kenya Federation wishes to inform the general public that Mr. Paul Put has officially resigned as the Kenya National Football Team, Harambee Stars Head Coach, citing personal reasons.
“The tactician’s resignation, though down to personal reasons is a setback to the country’s ongoing 2019 AFCON qualifiers as he was an integral member of the Technical Bench.
“In light of the foregoing, FKF has already begun the process of finding a suitable replacement to fill Mr. Put’s position, with Stanley Okumbi taking charge of the national team in the interim period.
The statement finished by thanking Put for his professional service and commitment as coach of the Harambee Stars.
Put has reportedly been calling for better management on the part of the Kenyan national football governing body. He told the Kenyan FA earlier that he could not accept the conditions he was being forced to work under.
The Belgian tactician has recently been linked to a head coach position in Guinea.
According to a report on sports website Soka25east.com, Put had tabled a proposal to his employer in early February asking for changes in the bench which could have seen his assistants Stanely Okumbi and John Kamau kicked out, but the Federation rubbished his idea citing financial challenges.
Put who was appointed on November 18, 2017, led Stars to the CECAFA Senior Challenge title last December, as they edged out Zanzibar 3-2 on post-match penalties in the final played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
