Kenya’s Kipruto sets 10km road world record in Valencia

Kenya’s Rhonex Kipruto set a new world record for the 10 kilometers road race in Valencia, Spain, by recording a new time of 26 minutes 24 seconds, 14 seconds shy of the last record.
The previous record had been set just six weeks ago by Joshua Cheptegei, who’s feat also came in Valencia but on a different course.
Kipruto also bettered the 5km road world record by reaching the halfway mark of the World Athletics Gold Label event in 13:18.
Benard Kimeli grabbed second place in Valencia to make it a one-two for Kenya, coming second in 27:12 ahead of Switzerland’s Julien Wanders who finished third in a new European record of 27:13.
Another Kenyan, Sheila Chepkirui, won the women’s race in a time of 29:46, making her the second fastest woman ever.
Rosemary Wanjiru and Norah Jeruto clocked identical times of 29:51 to finish behind Chepkirui and move to joint third on the world all-time list.
