Kenya’s High Court on Monday declined to suspend an order barring public transport vehicles from accessing Nairobi’s Central Business District.
Public transport operators had filed a case in the court seeking to stop the ban, arguing that the decision was made without public participation, and that they have valid licenses to operate within the CBD.
Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi last week said the ban would take effect on Monday 3, December.
Commuters were dropped just outside the CBD, forcing them to walk lengthy distances to access their work places.
With vehicles barred from the CBD, traffic snarl-ups hit the capital, with motorists spending longer times to get to their destinations.
Governor Mbuvi however reiterated on Monday that the ban was there to stay, urging Nairobi residents to use the walks to keep fit.
